The Feast of the Scapular, celebrated on July 16th,
is primarily associated with the Brown Scapular, a devotional scapular within
the Catholic Church, particularly within the Carmelite Order.  It’s a day of remembrance and devotion to Our
Lady of Mount Carmel, and the scapular itself is often seen as a symbol of her
protection.  While the scapular is
traditionally a cloth garment worn over the shoulders, it’s also represented by
a medal, which can be substituted for the cloth version. The scapular, in both cloth and medal form, is a
sacramental, meaning it's a tangible object that helps to dispose the wearer to
grace and is a symbol of faith, devotion, and spiritual protection.
